Why did you become a pharmacist?

I’ve always been the type of person who wanted to help as many people as I could—whether it was just being an ear to listen or improving their health and well-being. I’m a people-person.

My first job as pharmacy technician at my local retail pharmacy when I was 15 years old. I immediately knew it was the perfect fit for my personality and career goals. The rest is history: I’ve been working in a retail pharmacy for the past 13 years!

I always treat each customer as if they’re the only patient I have.

How do you go above and beyond for your customers?

I’ve been at the Price Chopper Market 32 pharmacy for just over four years, and I try to greet every single person by name. My goal is to make sure each patient feels like a person, not just a prescription number.

It’s a fast-paced job, yet as busy as retail pharmacy gets, I always treat each customer as if they’re the only patient I have. I give them time to talk, ask questions, and help with their personal concerns. I try not to get concerned with the queue or the phone ringing. When patients are worried, I drop what I’m doing to help them. I think they really appreciate the personal attention that I give to each one of them.

Praise from customers

“Jen is wonderful. She always goes above and beyond. Whether it be helping me find special vitamins or products in her store (and actually taking me there to find them), counseling me on their uses, or helping me get a prescription last minute. There was one time where I was going on a road trip and I needed a special type of antifungal that her store fills for me, I forgot I was almost out and desperately needed it. Knowing that it was hard to find, she called at least 10 or more pharmacies on my road trip route until she found one that had this serum in stock. It was so thoughtful, and because it was Friday, I couldn’t wait until Monday for the shipment. She went above and beyond/out of her way to help me find the medication so I wouldn’t have to go out of my way on my road trip. I’ll never forget it—or change pharmacies—as long as she’s there.”

“I’ve seen her go above and beyond, for example giving patients hand sanitizer recipes during the COVID breakout or being a shoulder to cry on when someone is visibly upset. She just takes professionalism and humanity to the next level.”
