Why did you become a pharmacy technician?
I have been working as a pharmacy technician for 17 years. I was taking health technology courses in high school and needed to complete my internship. I chose to proceed with a pharmacy technician position. After completing my internship, Walgreens offered me a job. I enjoyed learning about how medications work, and I enjoyed helping others.
Do you have a mentor in the profession?
There have been a few people who have helped me along the way. My former boss Michelle Nordhausen suggested that I consider a job as a pharmacy technician because it was an up-and-coming field. Through the years, I have had opportunities to grow as a pharmacy technician and learn through the guidance and support of Stephanie Cady, R.Ph. She has taught me how to be a leader and a great role model. I have met and worked alongside some amazing people, through the years—some I even consider family. Strong communication with your teammates is essential for this job.
How do you go above and beyond for your customers?
I take pride in my work and the personal relationships I have built with my customers. I help save people money with coupons and make sure their prescriptions are filled in a timely manner, whether it’s one prescription or 10. Even when I’m multitasking, I strive to be compassionate and empathetic.
What does this award mean to you?
Winning this award is a great honor. It feels wonderful to be recognized and appreciated by more than just my team.
