{"id":15668,"date":"2020-09-23T11:40:52","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T15:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/?p=15668"},"modified":"2023-05-25T12:47:35","modified_gmt":"2023-05-25T16:47:35","slug":"top-hospitals-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/top-hospitals-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"See the top hospitals in the U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to health care, it\u2019s important to live within close proximity to the necessary facilities\u2014but also that they provide a high level of care.<\/p>\n<p>There are approximately 7,500 hospitals, 70,000 pharmacies, and 4,800 urgent care centers across the whole of the <a href=\"https:\/\/hifld-geoplatform.opendata.arcgis.com\/search?groupIds=2900322cc0b14948a74dca886b7d7cfc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S.<\/a>;\u00a0we\u2019ve analyzed data to reveal which cities and states have the best access to healthcare facilities as well as exploring the U.S. states in which care facilities collectively provide the best care for specific treatments, such as a heart bypass or hip replacement.<\/p>\n<p>By ranking states across America according to its number of healthcare facilities, we can see that the top three states with the best access to hospitals, pharmacies, and urgent care facilities are California, with 7,740 healthcare facilities, Texas with 7,002, and Florida with 5,920.<\/p>\n<p>The graphic below further breaks down the states with the best access to specific healthcare facilities, by collating the number of hospitals, pharmacies, and urgent care facilities. Here, we have defined \u201curgent care\u201d as the delivery of medical care outside of a hospital emergency department on a walk-in basis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-States-With-Best-Access.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15672\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-States-With-Best-Access.png\" alt=\"Map of the U.S. that shows what states have the best access to medical facilities\" width=\"768\" height=\"1452\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-States-With-Best-Access.png 768w, https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-States-With-Best-Access-159x300.png 159w, https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-States-With-Best-Access-542x1024.png 542w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a>Access to health care can also be a cause for concern in large cities due to the increased population. New York ranks top as the U.S. city with the highest number of healthcare facilities with 2,134 altogether, which correlates with it also being the U.S. city with the largest population of 8.6 million people.<\/p>\n<p>Houston comes in second with a total of 883 healthcare facilities and Philadelphia third with 562. Interestingly, West Virginia\u2019s population ranks 38th in the U.S. with only 1.8 million residents and a total of 676 facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana top the list for the most healthcare facilities per 100,000 residents but also are within the list of the 10 states with the lowest population\u2014all home to below 1.1 million residents. This data highlights a possible correlation between a greater availability to healthcare facilities per 100,000 residents and a lower population.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/4-Facilities-Per-100000-Residents.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15670\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/4-Facilities-Per-100000-Residents.png\" alt=\"Table that shows which states have the highest number of healthcare facilities per 100,000 residents\" width=\"768\" height=\"838\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/4-Facilities-Per-100000-Residents.png 768w, https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/4-Facilities-Per-100000-Residents-275x300.png 275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For many, having a close proximity to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/how-to-save-on-healthcare-costs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">affordable health care<\/a> services is high on the list when it comes to choosing a location to live in.
