    In a year when millions of Americans lost their health insurance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, savings options like SingleCare are more important than ever to help people get the medications they need. Below is a state-by-state breakdown of those that saved the most on their prescriptions in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Mississippi\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Not only does Mississippi rank first in amount saved on prescriptions with SingleCare per capita, the state boasts the highest percentage of member enrollment. With 22% of the state population being uninsured, options like SingleCare help people get the medications they need while saving money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    2. Georgia\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    In 2020, Georgia landed in the second-place spot. Like Mississippi, nearly one quarter of Georgia residents are without health insurance, making pharmacy savings cards an important and popular way for Georgians to save money on their prescriptions.<\/span><\/p>\n

    3. Texas<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Texans ranked in third place per capita in 2020. The state is also home to the most SingleCare members and most prescriptions filled. Representing nearly 30% of all savings in the top 10 list, the Lone Star State also has the highest rate of uninsured citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Another reason Texans saved so much might be SingleCare\u2019s new partnership with H-E-B, which debuted earlier this year. Boasting nearly 350 stores throughout the state, the supermarket chain\u2019s partnership with SingleCare increased the number of places members can use their pharmacy cards, and likely increased their savings.<\/span><\/p>\n

    4. South Carolina<\/span><\/h3>\n

    South Carolina clocks in at number four. Adults 65 years or older make up nearly 18%<\/span> of the state\u2019s population. \u201cOlder populations will use more medications due to chronic conditions that become more prevalent as we age,\u201d explains Aaron Emmel, Pharm.D., founder and program director of<\/span> Pharmacy Tech Scholar.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0With a population that likely fills more prescriptions than average, South Carolina was poised to rack up the savings with its pharmacy savings cards.<\/span><\/p>\n

    5. North Carolina\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The Tar Heel State came in at number five. Approximately 20% of North Carolinians are without health insurance, which may have contributed to the state\u2019s savings.<\/span><\/p>\n

    6. New Jersey\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Ranking the<\/span> third-healthiest<\/span><\/a> state in the U.S., the Garden State saved the sixth highest amount on their prescriptions with SingleCare in 2020. One reason may be that 16.1% of its population is above the age of 65, potentially leading to more prescriptions being filled in the state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    7. Florida<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Floridians took the number-seven spot in the top 10. Florida has the second-highest population in the U.S. of people aged 65+, likely contributing to their prescriptions filled and savings this year. Additionally, one quarter of Florida residents are uninsured, making it likely they rely on programs like SingleCare to fill the gap.<\/span><\/p>\n

    8. Indiana<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Even though Indiana filled the fewest prescriptions with SingleCare per capita, the state had the highest savings per member in 2020. How did they save so much? The most-filled prescription in Indiana was<\/span> Adderall XR<\/span><\/a>, which can cost as much as $333.39 per 30, 30mg capsules without insurance or discounts, like the one the SingleCare pharmacy card can provide.<\/span><\/p>\n

    9. West Virginia\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The state with the third-highest population of residents 65+, West Virginia, came in at number nine. Another reason West Virginians may have saved so much? Their second-most-filled prescription, <\/span>cetirizine HCl<\/span><\/a>, has an average retail price of $37 without insurance or discounts.<\/span><\/p>\n

    10. Tennessee<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Rounding out the list is Tennessee. Tennessee has some of the highest prescription prices in the U.S., leaving plenty of room for saving with pharmacy cards. The state\u2019s most-filled prescription among SingleCare users was <\/span>alprazolam<\/span><\/a> (the generic of<\/span> Xanax<\/span><\/a>), which can cost over $30 without insurance or a savings card.<\/span><\/p>\n
