Ondansetron is a prescription drug used for the prevention of nausea and vomiting in people undergoing cancer chemotherapy, <\/span>radiation therapy<\/span>, or surgery. While Zofran is the brand name, it is no longer available in pharmacies in the U.S. Generic versions\u2014ondansetron oral tablets and orally disintegrating tablets (ODT)\u2014are still commonly prescribed, although many doctors and patients continue to refer to the medication as Zofran.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ondansetron<\/span><\/a> belongs to a class of <\/span>antiemetics<\/span><\/a> (anti-nausea drugs) called 5-HT3 <\/span>receptor antagonists<\/span>. These drugs block <\/span>serotonin<\/span>, a chemical in the brain that passes signals between nerves.
