According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/diabetes-survey\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SingleCare survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 20% of survey respondents reported that Medicare or Medicaid completely covers their diabetes care. An additional 10% reported that Medicare or Medicaid partially covers their diabetes care. Although any coverage is helpful when it comes to expensive medications and diabetic testing supplies, many Medicare consumers are still looking for ways to save.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which Medicare plans cover diabetic supplies?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/medicare-parts\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are four parts of Medicare<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All parts of Medicare can be advantageous to consumers with diabetes. Medicare Part B and D or a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage are the most beneficial to people with diabetes. For these areas, Medicare typically covers 80% of the visit, and you will pay 20% if you do not have coinsurance. Blood sugar self-testing supplies<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Medicare Part B, blood sugar self-testing equipment and supplies are covered under durable medical equipment (sometimes called DME), even if you do not require insulin. Those who take insulin can qualify for up to 300 strips and 300 lancets for blood glucose tests every three months. Those who do not take insulin may be able to get up to 100 test strips and 100 lancets every three months. If you require more, your healthcare provider can document that it is medically necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. Insulin pumps<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicare Part B may cover external insulin pumps as well as the insulin needed for the pump. Therapeutic shoes or inserts<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you meet certain conditions, Medicare Part B will cover either a pair of depth-inlay shoes with three pairs of inserts OR a pair of custom-molded shoes with inserts every year. Anti-diabetic drugs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some individuals may take <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/conditions\/diabetes-treatment-and-medications\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anti-diabetic drugs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and require prescription drug coverage if their blood sugar is not controlled by insulin. These drugs are covered by Medicare Part D or a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage.
