Average weight loss with Ozempic will vary based on individual factors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30615985\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SUSTAIN<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clinical trials<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">semaglutide<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> consistently demonstrated <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blood sugar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> control and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in participants with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/diabetes-weight-loss\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Type 2 diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obesity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Semaglutide<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Treatment Effect in People with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obesity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/10.1056\/NEJMoa2032183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">STEP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) program was conducted to study people who were either overweight or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obese<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but did not have diabetes. The study used <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">once weekly semaglutide<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dosed at 2.4 mg. The results showed a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 14.9% from baseline after 68 weeks (about 16 months) of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">semaglutide<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lifestyle changes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. More specifically, about 70% of participants achieved a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of at least 10%, and about 50% achieved a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 15% or more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These findings are important because <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 10% to 15% (or more) is recommended in overweight and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obese<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> people with associated complications (such as prediabetes, hypertension, and obstructive sleep apnea). The current study results suggest that the recommended goal of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obesity treatment<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be achieved with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">semaglutide<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"how-does-ozempic-help-you-lose-weight\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How does <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ozempic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> help you lose weight?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ozempic, like all GLP-1 agonists, works by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helping the pancreas release insulin (to help bring blood sugar down) when blood sugar is high<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decreasing glucagon production (glucagon increases blood sugar, so reducing its production helps limit blood sugar spikes)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slowing the movement of food through the stomach, which may cause appetite loss and weight loss\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"who-can-take-ozempic-for-weight-loss\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who can take <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ozempic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the significant results from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clinical trials<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and despite not being approved for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, some <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">healthcare professionals<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have begun using <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ozempic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> off-label. However, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ozempic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should not be used for everyone. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should not be used in people with a personal or family history of medullary <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thyroid<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> carcinoma (a type of thyroid cancer) or in patients with multiple <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">endocrine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> neoplasia syndrome type 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ozempic dosing for weight loss is generally the same as Ozempic dosing for blood sugar management. For diabetes, Ozempic is injected subcutaneously (under the skin) of the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Generally, healthcare professionals will start the patient on the lowest dose of 0.25 mg weekly for four weeks. After four weeks, the dose will increase to 0.5 mg weekly. After at least four weeks, the dose may be increased to 1 mg weekly if needed. Some patients will require another dosage increase after at least four more weeks, to 2 mg weekly. The maximum Ozempic dose is 2 mg per week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to use Ozempic exactly as directed and only make dosage changes under the direction of your healthcare provider. Dosage changes will be based on response to treatment and how well you tolerate any side effects. Many people can stay at 0.5 mg or 1 mg weekly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can discuss weight loss goals and progress with your healthcare provider.
