Meaning, they aren\u2019t a replacement for medical treatment and prescription medication. \u201cTen people die each day in the U.S. from asthma, so it\u2019s important not to rely on lifestyle changes alone,\u201d says Purvi Parikh, MD, allergist with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/allergyasthmanetwork.org\/about-us\/our-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allergy and Asthma Network<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Addressing and controlling allergies<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Meadows recommends all of his allergic asthma patients undergo allergy testing. \u201cTesting also makes us aware of what could cause an asthma attack,\u201d he says. \u201cBy knowing your triggers, you can take steps to avoid them whenever possible.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf you have allergies that are non-avoidable, such as being allergic to a family pet, I recommend getting allergy shots,\u201d Dr. Meadows says. \u201cSince it\u2019s not easy to avoid all allergens, allergy shots are a natural way to help dampen the immune system\u2019s response and lessen your asthma symptoms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For some allergies, there\u2019s an easier solution\u2014avoidance.
