2. Effient<\/span><\/h3>\n

Xarelto<\/span><\/a> does have an FDA-approved preventive indication. <\/span>Xarelto<\/span><\/a> is a direct oral anticoagulant, also known as a blood thinner, that works by preventing blood clots through inhibition of the factor Xa enzyme. It is best known for the treatment of blood clots and prevention of strokes in those with atrial fibrillation. <\/span>At a much lower dose than in these uses<\/span><\/a>, Xarelto was studied in combination with aspirin and found to be effective for the prevention of cardiovascular events, including strokes, in patients with known coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When considering different options, keep in mind that combining two antiplatelet agents or combining an anticoagulant and an antiplatelet agent can increase the risk of major bleeding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
