Another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/diabetesjournals.org\/care\/article\/30\/11\/2814\/4824\/Vinegar-Ingestion-at-Bedtime-Moderates-Waking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> among adults with Type 2 diabetes found that taking two tablespoons of ACV at bedtime reduced blood glucose levels the following morning. Additionally, a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31667860\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">systematic review and meta-analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of over 300 patients found that ACV has a beneficial effect on fasting glucose levels. In another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2410097\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 72 adults recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes were either given 500 mg of berberine or 500 mg of the diabetes drug <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/metformin-hcl\/what-is\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">metformin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> three times a day for 13 weeks; both groups experienced a similar hypoglycemic effect. But because this was a pilot study, more research is needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"6-bitter-melon-bitter-gourd\">6. Bitter melon (bitter gourd)<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although it\u2019s not an approved diabetes treatment, bitter melon, or momordica charantia, may help lower blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/21211558\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that ingesting 2000 mg of bitter melon each day for four weeks did have a hypoglycemic effect in patients with diabetes, but it was not as effective as the diabetes drug metformin. According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/22895968\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">systematic review<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, further studies are needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"7-cinnamon\">7. Cinnamon<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jury\u2019s still out on whether cinnamon is helpful for diabetes. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/diabetesjournals.org\/care\/article\/26\/12\/3215\/21858\/Cinnamon-Improves-Glucose-and-Lipids-of-People\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One small study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> showed that people with Type 2 diabetes who were given 1, 3, or 6 grams of cinnamon daily for 40 days experienced a reduction in their blood glucose, triglyceride, and cholesterol levels. The more cinnamon consumed, the greater the effect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But other studies showed no significant effect. For example, in another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3924990\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 35 people with Type 2 diabetes were given cinnamon for 60 days. They showed no reduction in blood glucose compared with the control group. Still, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/diabetes\/expert-answers\/diabetes\/faq-20058472\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to the Mayo Clinic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0 there\u2019s a possibility that the spice may help the body use insulin more effectively, and it\u2019s relatively safe, so it may be worth trying.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>RELATED: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/cinnamon\"><b>Save on cinnamon capsules<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"8-chromium\">8. Chromium<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The essential mineral chromium may help people with diabetes lower their blood sugar levels.\u00a0 A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4656904\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2015 study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that individuals who supplemented with chromium were at a decreased risk of developing diabetes due to improved HbA1c values. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/diabetes\/managing\/managing-blood-sugar\/a1c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the CDC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, values below 5.7% are normal, values from 5.7% to 6.4% are indicative of prediabetes, and values of 6.5% or greater indicate diabetes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/17684468\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> investigating chromium paired with biotin showed that individuals taking the combination had improved fasting glucose and HbA1c levels compared with the group taking a placebo. More research is needed to determine how beneficial chromium may be for diabetes, but it&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/diabetesaction.org\/article-chromium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">safe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for most individuals to take.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>RELATED: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/normal-a1c-levels\/\"><b>Normal A1C levels<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"9-coffee\">9. According to a<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2014\/04\/140424190516.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2014 study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diabetologia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, people who drank about a cup and a half of coffee per day for a four-year period had an 11% lower risk for Type 2 diabetes. But for people who already have diabetes, the results of coffee on blood sugar are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/type-2-diabetes\/expert-answers\/blood-sugar\/faq-20057941\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">variable<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (it may raise or lower it). In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/eclinm\/article\/PIIS2589-5370(22)00332-7\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent meta-analysis <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of 40 randomized controlled trials, CoQ10 was found to enhance glycemic control in diabetes patients.
