But it\u2019s more complicated than that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experts have determined that a number of supplements can lower your blood pressure\u2014some more than others. Some lower the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart.org\/en\/health-topics\/high-blood-pressure\/understanding-blood-pressure-readings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">systolic blood pressure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is the measure of the amount of pressure that blood exerts against the artery walls when your heart beats. B vitamins<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Folic acid, or vitamin B9, may be helpful in attaining healthy blood pressure, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5584015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research published in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frontiers in Pharmacology<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s40292-018-0247-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meta-review of multiple studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involving CoQ10 supplementation found that CoQ10 significantly decreased systolic blood pressure\u2013that\u2019s the top number on a blood pressure reading\u2013in 17 randomized controlled trials. However, the same review noted that CoQ10 didn\u2019t have nearly as dramatic an impact on reducing diastolic blood pressure. Interested in taking CoQ10? Magnesium and vitamin C may also be acceptable in some cases. \u201cMost of these things are fairly easy to take, and with some caveats, are fairly safe and don\u2019t have a lot of potential with other medications,\u201d says Dr. Orfanos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, even supplements that might not cause any major issues alone could contribute to a dangerous herb-drug interaction. For example, if you\u2019re taking an anticoagulant or blood thinner like warfarin, you might need to avoid taking vitamin K, echinacea, or garlic supplements, among others, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6726296\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about herb-drug interactions published in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Porto Biomedical Journal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
