Preserve brain health<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is mounting evidence for the cognitive benefits of avocados. They\u2019re also rich in fatty acids, particularly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7909548\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oleic acid, which has been linked to improved cognition in older men<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But the most direct connection between avocado consumption and cognition was reported in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8551489\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0cross-sectional study in <em>Frontiers in Nutrition<\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which older adults who ate avocados regularly scored significantly higher on cognition tests than those who didn\u2019t.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"10-support-a-healthy-pregnancy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10. Support a healthy pregnancy<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4882725\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research published in the journal <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nutrients<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, avocados are a rich source of the nutrients recommended for maternal health, and they are also associated with healthy birth outcomes and better breast milk quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avocados also contain higher amounts of potassium and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/folate\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">folate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than similar-sized servings of fruits, nuts, or seeds. Manage blood sugar levels<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAvocados contain zero grams of naturally occurring sugar per serving,\u201d Lee says. \u201cTherefore, they don\u2019t affect the glycemic response or cause blood glucose spikes after eating. This lowered glycemic response makes avocados great for those with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/conditions\/type-2-diabetes-treatment-and-medications\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Type 2 diabetes or those managing their blood sugar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d She adds that avocados are high in fiber, and research shows that increased fiber intake can reduce fasting glucose levels, insulin resistance, and other markers of metabolic health.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"12-reduce-the-risk-of-depression\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12. B vitamins like B12 and folate play an important <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/depression\/expert-answers\/vitamin-b12-and-depression\/faq-20058077\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">role<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the production of brain chemicals and may lower the risk of depression, which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/19909688\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has linked to folate deficiency. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0965229921001114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">systematic review and meta-analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that individuals with major depressive disorder who took supplements of folate in addition to SSRI\/SNRI therapy experienced a greater reduction in symptoms than those who did not take folate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"13-protect-against-cancer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13.
