Let&#8217;s go over some of the most common heat-related health problems your patients may encounter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"heatstroke\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heatstroke<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heatstroke is a serious condition. It is caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures, leading to a rapid increase in body temperature. Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and even unconsciousness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"heat-exhaustion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heat exhaustion<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heat exhaustion is milder than heat stroke, but still, something to avoid. It presents as small red bumps on the skin and usually occurs in areas where clothing rubs against the skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"dehydration\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dehydration<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dehydration occurs when the body loses more water than it takes in, often due to sweating in hot weather. Symptoms may include thirst, dizziness, confusion, and dark urine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"sunburn\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunburn<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunburn is a common issue during summer heat waves, caused by overexposure to sun ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Pharmacists should also inform patients about possible heat-related side effects associated with their drugs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"practical-tips-pharmacists-can-provide-for-patients-to-manage-heat\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practical tips pharmacists can provide for patients to manage heat<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pharmacists can offer helpful tips to help patients cope with hot weather conditions. Start with these five:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Stay hydrated:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Remind patients to drink plenty of water throughout the day to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/benefits-of-drinking-water\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prevent dehydration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
