If you take a daily probiotic with acidophilus for gut health, Shanta Retelny suggests taking it in the morning with breakfast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dietary supplements take effect more slowly than over-the-counter or prescription medication. There is no hard and fast rule about how long it will take to reap the health benefits of acidophilus, but like all supplements, probiotics work over time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"7-may-help-prevent-eczema-symptoms\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7. May help prevent eczema symptoms<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re among the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nationaleczema.org\/research\/eczema-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31.6 million Americans living with eczema<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also known as atopic dermatitis, you\u2019ll be happy to know there are also acidophilus benefits for the skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research suggests that probiotics can help prevent eczema. In one <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/19840300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2010 study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 112 pregnant women with a familial history of allergies were given either a daily probiotic or a placebo pill. In the probiotic group, 18% of infants developed eczema symptoms, while 40% in the placebo group developed symptoms. Researchers concluded that more high-quality studies are needed to offer dosage recommendations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"9-supports-weight-loss-efforts\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9. Supports weight loss efforts<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loading up on yogurt or taking acidophilus supplements won\u2019t magically melt belly fat. However, there is evidence that probiotics can support weight loss efforts. \u201c[Acidophilus] can improve appetite and sensation of fullness,\u201d says Dr. Lee. Increasing your sense of satiety can help keep you from overeating or snacking between meals, which helps with weight management.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/27149163\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2015 review<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 25 research trials found that probiotics could reduce body weight and body mass index (BMI). However, the research was on probiotics in general, not acidophilus specifically. If you\u2019re trying to lose weight, consult a healthcare provider about the best probiotic supplement and other weight loss methods.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"10-decrease-inflammation\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10.
