People of any age who take bupropion should be closely monitored for suicidal thoughts and behaviors (or changes in mood and behavior).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"bupropion-drug-interactions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bupropion-drug interactions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bupropion interacts with various medications, and some effects could be severe. The following section reviews <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailymed.nlm.nih.gov\/dailymed\/drugInfo.cfm?setid=cbc8c074-f080-4489-a5ae-207b5fadeba3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some common interactions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Because the complete list of drug interactions is too long to list every possible drug here, it\u2019s important to consult your healthcare provider to ensure that bupropion is safe for you to take with the medications you currently take, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins, and supplements.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"monoamine-oxidase-inhibitors-mao-inhibitors-or-maois\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors or MAOIs)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bupropion should never be taken with any drug from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/drug-classes\/maois\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) drug class<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Combining bupropion with another drug that CYP2B6 breaks down can result in a drug interaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some drugs <\/span><b>inhibit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> CYP2B6, which can increase bupropion levels in the body. This may require a lower dosage of bupropion. A lower dose of the substrate may be required. Healthcare prescribers never prescribe two formulations of bupropion. Other drugs that increase dopamine levels, if combined with bupropion, can cause increased side effects such as agitation, tremors, incoordination, vertigo, and dizziness. If the combination cannot be avoided, healthcare providers will prescribe these medications with caution and closely monitor the patient.
