Thankfully, there are ways to alleviate it on the spot and prevent it in the future.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"15-ways-to-get-rid-of-gas\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15 ways to get rid of gas<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are medical and homeopathic ways to get rid of excess amounts of intestinal gas that may be making you uncomfortable. Some are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/get-rid-of-gas-fast\/\">quick<\/a>, while others require long-term lifestyle changes, but they can all ideally help you have less abdominal pain and discomfort. See a gastroenterologist.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&ldquo;Some intestinal illnesses can cause increased gas,&rdquo; says <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mejdi-ahmad-773b6036\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mejdi Ahmad, MD<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, gastroenterologist with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalofficesofmanhattan.com\/our-team\/mejdi-ahmad-md\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical Offices of Manhattan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Take a supplement.&nbsp;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Bravo says alpha-galactosidase supplements like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/beano-ultra-800\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beano<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> help to break down certain complex carbohydrates, like the ones found in beans and vegetables containing a sugar called raffinose. &ldquo;Taking Beano after eating these foods,&rdquo; Dr. Bravo says, &ldquo;may be effective in reducing the gas they often cause.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, taking a lactase supplement like Lactaid can counteract some of the discomfort associated with eating dairy foods if you have a sensitivity to things like cow&rsquo;s milk, cheese, and ice cream. Typically, people with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/what-is-lactose-intolerance\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lactose intolerance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have difficulty breaking down the sugar lactose found in dairy; a lactase supplement helps your body break it down so it&rsquo;s less likely to produce gas in the digestion process.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"6-stop-chewing-gum\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6. Eat lots of high-fiber foods.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While eating way too much fiber&mdash;especially if you aren&rsquo;t drinking enough water&mdash;can cause gas, constipation, and bloating, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/nutrition-and-healthy-eating\/in-depth\/fiber\/art-20043983#:~:text=Dietary%20fiber%20increases%20the%20weight,Helps%20maintain%20bowel%20health.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high-fiber foods can benefit your digestion by bulking up and softening your stool, making it easier to pass<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In fact,&nbsp; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bodyworkmovementtherapies.com\/article\/S1360-8592(21)00086-3\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that people who did yoga three times per week for three months had less constipation than other participants who did no yoga. In fact, there are even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cdhf.ca\/en\/yoga-for-digestion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gas-relieving yoga poses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"11-drink-peppermint-tea\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11. Drink peppermint tea.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peppermint is an herbal extract known to aid digestion, so wrapping up your meal with a cup of peppermint tea can help your stomach process all that food you just ate more efficiently. Peppermint can also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountsinai.org\/health-library\/herb\/peppermint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">relax the intestinal muscles, which makes it easier for gas to pass<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rather than stay trapped in the digestive tract, causing uncomfortable cramping.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"12-quit-smoking\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12. It&#8217;s a good idea to stop smoking for many reasons related to your health, and gas is just one of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"13-skip-the-straw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13. Skip the straw.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Ahmad says sipping a carbonated beverage through a straw is an especially good way to end up with trapped gas in the GI tract, but drinking <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">any <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">type of beverage through a straw puts you at a higher risk of gas pain. The reason? You&rsquo;re inhaling more air (from inside the straw) than you would if you drank straw-free.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"14-eat-trigger-foods-in-moderation\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14. Eat trigger foods in moderation.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you know certain gas-producing foods (like dairy, raw vegetables, and low-sugar treats) tend to cause problems for you, it&rsquo;s smart to eat them in moderation to avoid experiencing frequent gas pain. Even high-fiber foods, which are typically healthy, can cause excess gas in certain individuals. If you aren&rsquo;t sure what&rsquo;s causing your discomfort, a food diary or elimination diet can help you identify foods that trigger excess gas and make dietary changes needed for gas relief.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&ldquo;In some cases,&rdquo; notes Dr. Bravo, &ldquo;a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/wellness-and-prevention\/fodmap-diet-what-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">low-FODMAP diet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may be helpful.&rdquo; Fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs) are a class of carbohydrates that can be more difficult to digest.
