In fact, according to a robust longitudinal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaacap.org\/article\/S0890-8567(22)00179-4\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, genetics account for about 40% of an individual\u2019s risk of anxiety and depression, while environmental factors account for the rest. He says that in most cases, individuals will present with symptoms that are suggestive of both a depressive disorder and an anxiety disorder. One <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ajp.psychiatryonline.org\/doi\/10.1176\/appi.ajp.2020.20030305\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meta-analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approximately 85%<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of individuals diagnosed with major depression also experience symptoms of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/news\/anxiety-statistics\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the most common anxiety disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-are-the-symptoms-of-anxiety-and-depression\">What are the symptoms of anxiety and depression?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anxiety is a feeling of worry or unease\u2014like something bad is going to happen. \u201cDepression is a persistent state of depressed or irritable mood,\u201d Dr. Narasimhan says. rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">characterized<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by a long-term sad mood that interferes with normal daily functioning.
