However, they can cause serious side effects, such as extreme drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Talk to a healthcare provider about alternative treatments for motion sickness.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"other-sedatives\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other sedatives<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opioids and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/drug-classes\/benzodiazepines\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">benzodiazepines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are sedatives. And although it&rsquo;s rare, combining these medications can even cause slowed breathing or coma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples of sedatives include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luminal (phenobarbital)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lunesta (eszopiclone)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ambien (zolpidem)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fexmid (cyclobenzaprine)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"anticholinergic-drugs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anticholinergic drugs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anticholinergics are drugs that block a chemical in the body called acetylcholine. They&rsquo;re used to treat health conditions such as urinary incontinence, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/conditions\/copd-causes\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, trouble sleeping, and motion sickness. They cause adverse reactions such as blurry vision, dry mouth, constipation, and memory problems.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dramamine has anticholinergic activity. Combining Dramamine with anticholinergics can worsen these side effects.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples of anticholinergic drugs include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ditropan (oxybutynin)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cogentin (benztropine)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toviaz (fesoterodine)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spiriva (tiotropium)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"xywav-and-xyrem\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xywav and Xyrem<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/xywav\/what-is\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xywav<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium oxybates) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/xyrem\/what-is\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xyrem<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (sodium oxybate) are medications used to treat cataplexy and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/conditions\/narcolepsy-treatment-and-medications\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">narcolepsy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Due to this risk, avoid taking Dramamine if you&rsquo;re taking Xywav or Xyrem. Talk with your healthcare team if you need alternative recommendations for motion sickness treatments.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"wakix\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wakix<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/wakix\/what-is\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wakix<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (pitolisant) is another drug used to treat narcolepsy. However, its interaction with Dramamine differs from Xywav and Xyrem. If taken with Dramamine, Wakix (pitolisant) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reference.medscape.com\/drug\/dramamine-dimenhydrinate-342045\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can be less effective<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For this reason, doctors typically won&rsquo;t recommend Dramamine if you&rsquo;re taking Wakix.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"dramamine-food-interactions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dramamine food interactions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some cases, food can interact with medicine. Luckily, Dramamine isn&rsquo;t known to interact with any foods. It can be taken with or without food. If it causes stomach upset, take it with food or milk.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"other-dramamine-interactions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other Dramamine interactions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dramamine may also interact with alcohol and some health conditions.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"dramamine-and-alcohol\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dramamine and alcohol<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alcohol consumption causes similar side effects as Dramamine. These effects include drowsiness, dizziness, impaired coordination, and difficulty concentrating. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/alcohol-and-nausea-medicine\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combining Dramamine with alcohol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can worsen these effects and make motion sickness worse. Here are two ways to help avoid Dramamine interactions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Keep an updated medication and medical condition list: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Include all OTC and prescription drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, and health conditions <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/medication-list-template\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
