Other uses are possible but not very common.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"chronic-pain\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chronic pain<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most pet owners will encounter tramadol as an analgesic for chronic pain, usually osteoarthritis, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.merckvetmanual.com\/management-and-nutrition\/pain-assessment-and-management\/chronic-pain-in-animals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the most common cause of chronic pain in dogs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, it&rsquo;s possible but not likely a veterinarian will prescribe tramadol after a veterinary procedure. Tramadol was once commonly used to manage pain after animal surgeries, but it&rsquo;s fallen out of favor.
