Long-term use can also potentially damage the nasal tissues,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In September 2023, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/drug-safety-and-availability\/fda-clarifies-results-recent-advisory-committee-meeting-oral-phenylephrine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> met to discuss evidence suggesting that oral phenylephrine, one of the active ingredients found in most over-the-counter decongestants, is ineffective for relieving nasal congestion. However, the FDA has not yet arrived at a definite conclusion as the evidence is still under review.
