Much of the hype around Ozempic comes from its weight loss benefits, and it’s sometimes prescribed off-label for weight reduction even though the FDA hasn’t approved it for that purpose. Instead, it’s FDA approved for managing blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes, reducing cardiovascular risk, and controlling kidney disease. Nailing down a price for Ozempic is tough because it varies based on insurance coverage and the reason for taking it. But thanks to a discount from the drug’s manufacturer, you may be able to get it for as little as $25 for a one-month, two-month, or three-month supply. Here’s how.

How to get Ozempic for $25 a month

People who qualify for Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic savings card might pay as low as $25 per month for Ozempic. You can sign up on the Ozempic website, but not everyone is eligible. To get the card, you must have commercial insurance that covers some of Ozempic’s price. Anyone who has Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits, TRICARE, or other government-sponsored assistance programs isn’t eligible.

Fortunately, there are other effective ways to save if you don’t qualify for this card, and we’ve outlined a few at the end of this article.

What is the $25 Ozempic savings card?

It’s a savings program designed by Ozempic’s manufacturer to help lower the medication’s cost for patients whose commercial insurance copays might still be too high. And while it can provide significant savings, not everyone will pay that $25 per month price.

Ozempic’s website says as little as $25, and there’s a maximum savings of $100 for a 1-month prescription, $200 for a two-month prescription, and $300 for a three-month prescription. It really depends on how much your insurance plan will cover and how much you’ll have left over in out-of-pocket costs. You can access those savings for up to 48 months, which is a long time, but Ozempic is typically prescribed for long-term treatment, so some people might use it longer than that.

Who qualifies for $25 Ozempic?

Novo Nordisk says qualified applicants must be enrolled in a private insurance plan, and that plan needs to cover Ozempic partially. It doesn’t apply to anyone paying completely out of pocket.

Additionally, applicants are ineligible if they’re enrolled in any state or federal program with prescription medication coverage. That includes Medicare, Medicaid, VA, DOD, and TRICARE coverage. The offer is only valid in the United States, it’s not transferable to another person, and the applicant is still responsible for all copayments and other fees issued by their health insurance policy.

Insurance plans will typically only cover Ozempic when it’s prescribed for an FDA-approved condition like Type 2 diabetes, not an off-label one like weight loss. However, that’s constantly changing, according to Sulagna Misra, MD, founder of Misra Wellness. She says some insurance providers who once covered Ozempic for obesity now might only cover Wegovy instead, or neither. Wegovy is a separate brand name that Novo Nordisk (Ozempic’s manufacturer) markets the drug under, which has made insurance more complicated for healthcare providers and patients alike.

Further, Dr. Misra says, many insurance plans now require prior authorization from the healthcare provider before approving coverage for weight loss drugs. And some will only cover one medication after the patient has tried other drugs, or even certain diets. Relatively simple paperwork errors about the brand name or prior authorization requirements can be enough to deny a claim, which is why Dr. Misra recommends always checking with your pharmacy and healthcare provider first.

How to get the $25 Ozempic savings card

If you meet all those requirements, you’re ready to apply for the Ozempic savings card. Here’s how to do it:

Go to the Ozempic Savings page on Ozempic.com and click the button that says “Sign Up and Save.”

Enter the required personal information. The online form asks for standard info like your name, date of birth, and ZIP code, but it also requests confirmation that you have a private insurance plan and that you’re not on any government-sponsored health plans.

If Novo Nordisk approves the application, you can print, download, or email yourself an Ozempic savings card.

When you go to pick up your Ozempic prescription, present this card to the pharmacist. If you use a mail-order pharmacy, you’ll have to call the support number and provide the BIN, PCN, and Group numbers on your card. In some cases, you may have to purchase the medication first and then apply for reimbursement with Novo Nordisk.

Some insurance providers may require prior authorization from your prescribing healthcare provider before they issue coverage.

What to do if you don’t qualify for the $25 Ozempic savings card

Anyone who doesn’t have insurance, pays cash for prescriptions, or has government-issued health insurance can’t get the manufacturer’s savings card, but that doesn’t mean those people are out of luck. If you fall into one of these categories, you’ve got other ways to save on Ozempic.

Get a SingleCare prescription discount card

SingleCare negotiates directly with pharmacies to offer free coupons to help people save on their medications. You can’t use SingleCare on top of insurance coverage, and it won’t drop the price as low as $25, but a SingleCare prescription discount card can still knock hundreds off the price. Check the SingleCare website or SingleCare app for Ozempic coupons to start saving today.

Look into Medicaid and Medicare Extra Help

People with government-issued insurance can’t get the Ozempic savings card, but they can potentially access other savings. For example, Medicaid is available to anyone who meets certain income requirements, although these vary by state. Or, Medicare Extra Help provides more savings for people who need financial assistance for prescription drugs. Eligible beneficiaries are people with Medicare who have limited income and resources. If you qualify for Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program, you qualify for Extra Help.

Get it from a licensed healthcare provider

Part of saving on Ozempic is ensuring you don’t get overcharged. “There are patients who go to these ‘medispas’ that don’t even have doctors on staff or on-site. And then they are getting price gouged,” Dr. Misra says. ”I have patients who were previously paying $250 per injection at some of these places, and then they price-gouge them to $800 per weekly injection.” That’s why she recommends patients only get prescriptions for Ozempic or similar drugs from someone with a doctor of medicine degree (an MD) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree (a DO). They are most qualified to give you medical advice on the best treatment options for your condition.

Enroll in Novo Nordisk’s Patient Assistance Program

The Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program (PAP) helps uninsured people at or below 200% of the federal poverty level access Ozempic for free, as long as they meet all the eligibility requirements. Besides meeting the income requirement, qualifying patients must not be enrolled in commercial insurance, and they can’t have or qualify for Medicare, VA benefits, or any other government assistance program.

Consider alternatives

Ozempic isn’t the only GLP-1 drug on the market, and some Ozempic alternatives might come at a lower out-of-pocket cost or receive better coverage from your insurance plan. So it’s worth asking your healthcare provider which alternatives could work for your condition, then looking them up in your insurance plan’s formulary.

Frequently asked questions

Is the $25 Ozempic card real?

Yes, it comes from Ozempic’s manufacturer, and by using it, patients who have commercial insurance can get the medication for as little as $25. Not everyone qualifies, so check the manufacturer’s site for more information.

Can I get Ozempic for $25 without insurance?

No. The average price of Ozempic without insurance coverage or other assistance is around $1,386 per pre-filled multidose pen, but other savings (like coupons from SingleCare) can drop that price by hundreds.

Why was my savings card rejected?

There are multiple reasons someone might get denied for a savings card, including enrollment in a government program like Medicare, Medicaid, or VA benefits, or having a commercial insurance plan that doesn’t cover Ozempic.

Ozempic (semaglutide) is an injectable prescription medication from a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists.
