This involves a cost to patients as well as the cost to the pharmacy of procuring brand-name Zofran products,&rdquo; he explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the brand name has been discontinued, the generic versions of Zofran and Zofran ODT&mdash;ondansetron and ondansetron ODT&mdash;are still available to consumers, and they&rsquo;re<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> chemically identical.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;&ldquo;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ondansetron has the same active pharmaceutical ingredient as Zofran, but other &lsquo;fillers&rsquo; may be added to ensure the stability of the medication,&rdquo; says Dr. Glatter. Fillers are safe to add to generic versions of medications and do not impact their effectiveness. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, whether you take <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ondansetron or Zofran, they are equally effective.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"who-should-avoid-taking-zofran\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who should avoid taking Zofran?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zofran is an effective anti-nausea medication, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2016\/020103s035_020605s019_020781s019lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">certain people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should use it cautiously or avoid it.
