McKinney, MD, a weight-loss expert at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Healthy Outlook<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Jacksonville, Florida. \u201cThis is relatively rare and often confounded by other factors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most patients do not experience significant weight changes attributable directly to this medication,\u201d agrees <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/eldad-einav-facc-a0654820\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eldad Einav<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, MD, cardiologist and Clinical Assistant Professor at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upstate.edu\/com\/about\/campuses\/bing\/bingtele.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SUNY Upstate Medical University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, if you start packing on the pounds after starting lisinopril, it\u2019s typically not caused by the medication itself, but rather one or more of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Lifestyle factors: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahajournals.org\/doi\/10.1161\/HYPERTENSIONAHA.118.11190\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sedentary lifestyle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is linked to both hypertension and weight gain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Co-occurring medical conditions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Some medical conditions that commonly cooccur with hypertension are also associated with obesity, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2796886\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">metabolic disorders<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK592412\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and high cholesterol. Other health issues that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/obesity\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20375742\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are associated with obesity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heart disease, liver disease, sleep apnea, and certain cancers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Other medications:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Certain medications are commonly associated with weight gain, especially mental health medications, such as some antidepressants or antipsychotics, says Dr. Einav.
