Benefits of Wegovy for PCOS<\/span><\/h2>\n

Wegovy is indicated for weight management, a problem for many PCOS patients. In fact, <\/span>most women with PCOS<\/span><\/a> are either overweight or have obesity. But Wegovy is not specifically indicated as a <\/span>PCOS treatment<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Women with PCOS who are struggling to reach a healthy weight through diet and exercise alone may greatly benefit from Wegovy. A recent study published in the<\/span> Journal of Clinical Medicine<\/span><\/i><\/a> <\/i>found that Wegovy reduced body weight in 80% of PCOS patients with obesity who were unable to lose weight through lifestyle changes alone. These results are likely due to the way Wegovy boosts satiety\u2014the feeling of fullness after meals\u2014and dampens appetite.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But the benefits don\u2019t stop with weight loss. Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight with Wegovy may also help improve PCOS symptoms aggravated by weight gain. Some <\/span>people with PCOS who are overweight<\/span><\/a> experience more regular menstrual cycles after reaching a healthy weight.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Losing weight with Wegovy may also benefit fertility. The irregular periods associated with PCOS can make it very difficult to get pregnant. <\/span>Research<\/span><\/a> also shows that obesity also disrupts fertility. If a woman with PCOS is trying to get pregnant, <\/span>weight management is critical to improving her odds<\/span><\/a>\u2014not only can a healthy weight help regulate her menstrual cycle, but it removes the negative impact of obesity on fertility.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wegovy dosage for PCOS<\/span><\/h2>\n

There is no specific, standardized Wegovy dosage for PCOS. The typical dosing schedule provides a starting point for healthcare providers, but it\u2019s up to the prescriber to determine what is best for each patient.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Dr. Rowland, a typical <\/span>Wegovy dosing schedule<\/span><\/a> starts at 0.25 milligrams (mg) per week and gradually increases until it reaches the maintenance level. Depending on the patient, a maintenance dose may be 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg weekly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe treatment plan and the dosing should be individualized for patients with PCOS since there are different factors involved, including the level of inflammation and insulin resistance,\u201d said Dr. Melamed, who recommends consulting an endocrinologist for a PCOS-specific treatment plan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many people using Wegovy for PCOS wonder <\/span>how long it takes to work<\/span><\/a>. One <\/span>retrospective study published in 2022 in <\/span>JAMA Network Open<\/span><\/i><\/a> found that patients taking semaglutide had an average total body weight loss of 5.9% at the three-month mark and 10.9% at the six-month mark. However, this study did not specifically focus on people with PCOS. Ultimately, results may vary.<\/span><\/p>\n
