Can I get Aimovig for free?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Some insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid plans, cover the full cost of Aimovig, according to <\/span>Lauren R. Natbony, MD<\/span><\/a>, a board-certified neurologist and medical director of Integrative Headache Medicine of New York. But she emphasizes that the final out-of-pocket cost depends on the health plan and that patients sometimes must try (and fail) other medications before the insurance company will approve coverage for Aimovig. This is called \u201cstep therapy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another way to get free Aimovig is to enroll in the manufacturer\u2019s patient assistance program. The Amgen Safety Net Foundation offers free Aimovig for up to 12 months to eligible enrollees who meet its income limits, are uninsured, or have insurance that excludes Aimovig coverage. The earliest a generic or biosimilar version of Aimovig will be available in the U.S. is <\/span>2032<\/span><\/a>. “Aimovig is a novel medication belonging to a distinct class. Due to patent protections, no generic substitutes exist for this medication or others in its category,” Dr. Natbony explains. However, she says lower-priced migraine medications in other drug classes may be prescribed as <\/span>Aimovig alternatives<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
