What is the generic for NovoLog?<\/h2>\n

NovoLog<\/a> is Novo Nordisk\u2019s brand-name formulation of rapid-acting insulin<\/a>. Its active ingredient is insulin aspart. Novo Nordisk previously sold an unbranded insulin aspart product equivalent to NovoLog, but the company discontinued its unbranded biologic insulins<\/a> on Dec. 31, 2025.<\/p>\n

There are, however, two lower-priced FDA-approved insulin aspart biosimilars to NovoLog:\u00a0 Merilog<\/a> (insulin aspart-szjj) and Kirsty<\/a> (insulin aspart-xjhz). Kirsty<\/a> is designated as interchangeable with NovoLog, meaning a pharmacist may be able to substitute it for NovoLog without a new prescription, depending on state law. Merilog does not have an interchangeable status<\/a> and will require a new prescription from the healthcare provider.<\/p>\n

A third biosimilar, Garzulys (insulin aspart-fsan), was approved in July 2026<\/a>.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Other rapid-acting insulin options include Sanofi\u2019s Admelog<\/a> (insulin lispro) and Apidra<\/a> (insulin glulisine), Eli Lilly\u2019s Humalog<\/a> (insulin lispro) and Lyumjev<\/a> (insulin lispro-aabc), and Novo Nordisk\u2019s Fiasp<\/a> (insulin aspart).<\/p>\n

NovoLog may be covered by private insurance, Medicare Part D<\/a>, and Medicaid, but coverage and copays vary by plan.
