But what if you want to have a beer or a glass of wine along with your meal? Can you safely mix omeprazole and alcohol? The short answer is yes; there is no interaction between the two.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, most healthcare providers recommend against drinking while taking this medication&mdash;also known by its brand names <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/prilosec\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prilosec<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/zegerid\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zegerid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Why? Alcohol worsens the symptoms that omeprazole is meant to treat, making it less effective at reducing reflux symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-is-omeprazole-used-for\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is omeprazole used for?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Omeprazole treats several conditions, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/heartburn-how-to-treat-nausea-and-stomachaches\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, erosive esophagitis, stomach ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and Helicobacter pylori infections alongside antibiotics. One study found that regular drinkers are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/alcalc\/article\/54\/1\/62\/5090261\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">48% more likely<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to develop GERD.
