So, it takes about three to five days for the body to eliminate <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the last dose has been taken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis time would be extended if the patient has poor kidney function,\u201d adds <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dr-wendi-d-jones\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Wendi Jones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Pharm.D., a pharmacist and the owner of Be Healthy Apothecary, LLC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the dose has no impact on the metabolism of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to Dr. Jones.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.garagegymreviews.com\/author\/drraj\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Raj Dasgupta<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, MD, chief medical advisor for Garage Gym Reviews, agrees. \u201cJust because you increase the dose in this case does not mean the drug stays longer in your body,\u201d he says, noting that is a different concept than metabolism.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"factors-that-influence-how-long-meloxicam-stays-in-your-system\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Factors that influence how long <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stays in your system<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some health factors can affect how long <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stays in the body. \u201cConditions like liver or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kidney disease<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can slow down how quickly <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is cleared from your body, leading it to stay in your system longer,\u201d Dr. Dasgupta says. \u201cCertain medications, like antifungals or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blood pressure<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> drugs, might also interfere with the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s elimination.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Jones mentions kidney function and genetics as other factors. \u201cPatients with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kidney disease<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have a more difficult time removing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from their system,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Factors that influence the absorption of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include food, gut health, and other medications. \u201cIt\u2019s better absorbed when taken with food,\u201d Dr. Dasgupta says. \u201cDrugs that change stomach pH or motility can slow or speed up how <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is absorbed.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out of your body even faster? Unfortunately, \u201cthere\u2019s no quick way to flush <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NSAIDs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) such as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mobic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) out of your system,\u201d according to Dr. Dasgupta. He encourages staying hydrated to help eliminate the drug naturally, but don\u2019t expect the speed to be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> much faster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Dr. Jones, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/cholestyramine\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cholestyramine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a drug that lowers cholesterol, might help. She says it\u2019s been shown to reduce the concentration of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the blood and accelerate its clearance. It may be used in overdose cases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOverdose treatment should be done in a hospital,\u201d she adds, \u201cand the Poison Control Center should be contacted.\u201d The number for the Poison Control Center is 1-800-222-1222.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"side-effects-of-long-term-meloxicam-use\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Side effects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of long-term <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> use<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If taken long-term, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can cause damage to the upper <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gastrointestinal<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (GI) tract, Dr. Dasgupta says. This includes the stomach and small intestine, in which inflammation, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ulcers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kidney problems<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can arise. But again, these are more likely when <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is consumed longer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Jones adds that the greatest risk of long-term use is GI bleeding. She says the risk is especially high for patients who use oral corticosteroids, anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors, or diuretics, as well as those who are elderly, have poor kidney function, have heart failure, or drink alcohol or smoke.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPatients\u2019 liver enzymes should be monitored,\u201d she continues. \u201cNo dose adjustments have been provided regarding reduced liver activity; however, if liver function worsens or is impaired, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may be best avoided.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, Dr. Dasgupta says it\u2019s generally safe to take this medication daily under a doctor\u2019s supervision, especially for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chronic pain<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conditions such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/conditions\/arthritis-treatment-and-medications\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arthritis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Jones agrees, saying it\u2019s usually prescribed with a once-a-day dosage and sometimes indefinitely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHowever, long-term use increases the risk of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">side effects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so it\u2019s important to have regular checkups and monitoring for kidney and stomach issues,\u201d Dr. Dasgupta says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For what it\u2019s worth, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NSAIDs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> typically don\u2019t \u201cbuild up\u201d in the body, Dr. Dasgupta says, since they&#8217;re excreted relatively quickly. However, taking them regularly over time can lead to a more consistent level of the drug in the bloodstream.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf dosing is appropriate, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> maintains a level concentration in the body and does not increase unless the dose is increased,\u201d Dr. Jones agrees. \u201cThere are, however, several medications that can cause <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concentrations to increase.\u201d So, she urges people to let a pharmacist or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">healthcare provider<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> know about other medications and herbal supplements being used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all that said, is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the safest <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anti-inflammatory<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> medication, or should someone consider switching? It depends. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anti-inflammatory<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> medication choice depends on your personal health and consultation with your doctor,\u201d Dr. Dasgupta says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For people treating pain, he encourages considering acetaminophen (Tylenol) since it\u2019s \u201cconsidered safer for long-term use\u201d and is \u201cless likely to cause issues with the upper <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gastrointestinal<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tract, which includes the stomach and small intestine or kidneys.\u201d However, it comes with its own risks. Plus, an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NSAID<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may be more of what a person needs due to pain and inflammation. For these reasons and more, he urges consulting with a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">healthcare professional<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to find the best, individualized choice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not just the specific medication that matters, either. \u201cTypically, if able, it\u2019s best to take an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NSAID<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the lowest dose for the shortest duration,\u201d Dr. Jones says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She continues that ibuprofen<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is generally considered safer since it has a shorter duration of action, and diclofenac has a similar safety profile as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Dr. Jones also believes these are all safer than celecoxib and tramadol.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-bottom-line\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bottom line\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meloxicam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stays in a person\u2019s system for around three to five days.
