Bupropion is available in three forms: immediate-release (IR), sustained-release (SR), and extended-release (XL).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IR form starts to show effects within a few hours and is taken multiple times a day. The SR form begins to show effects within three to four hours and is taken twice a day. These can support overall well-being and potentially enhance the medication&#8217;s effectiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-is-the-standard-bupropion-dosage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the standard bupropion dosage?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe typical total daily dose for bupropion is 300 mg,\u201d Dr. Schwartz says. This dose is often prescribed both for treating major depressive disorder (MDD) and for quitting smoking. Also, it may be dosed once daily or multiple times daily, depending on the formulation you are prescribed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"who-should-avoid-taking-bupropion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who should avoid taking bupropion?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from its FDA-approved uses, bupropion has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK470212\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other off-label uses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including treating depression related to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/conditions\/adhd-treatment-and-medications\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, bipolar disorder, and obesity.
