In those cases, your lymph nodes typically go down on their own once your immune system clears things up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These drugs stop the bacteria from spreading by attacking their cell walls or inhibiting their ability to multiply, per the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Nature Reviews Microbiology<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. So if the healthcare provider suspects strep throat, tuberculosis, cat-scratch fever, skin infections, or other bacterial health conditions, they may prescribe an antibiotic. The median time for a 75% reduction was eight days for amoxicillin-clavulanate and seven days for telithromycin. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/29679383\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research also shows<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that shorter courses of antibiotic treatment could be as effective as longer ones for some infections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These studies don\u2019t look specifically at swollen glands, but since it\u2019s one of the common signs of these infections, they might follow a similar timeline. However, in some cases, it might take multiple weeks for the nodes to return to normal size after the pain subsides, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ufhealth.org\/conditions-and-treatments\/swollen-lymph-nodes\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to University of Florida Health<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThe key is to take the entire course\u2014even if you feel better halfway through\u2014so the infection does not bounce back,\u201d Dr. Hakimi says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most cases are nothing to worry about, so it\u2019s typically not a medical emergency.
