These substances play many essential roles, including regulating mood and controlling the fight-or-flight response.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"venlafaxine-forms-and-dosages\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Venlafaxine forms and dosages<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c[Venlafaxine] is FDA-approved in adults for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. In children and adolescents, venlafaxine is not FDA-approved,\u201d explained Dr. Ritu Goel, a double board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult mental health at MindClaire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Venlafaxine comes in three forms: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/venlafaxine-hcl\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">immediate-release tablet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, extended-release tablet, and extended-release capsule.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Saira Bhatti, a Columbia-trained forensic psychiatrist specializing in adult psychiatric care in Manhattan, explained the benefits of the different time-release forms. \u201cA major benefit of extended release is it lasts longer in the body because it is released in the body over an extended period of time. The extended release formulation can be helpful for individuals who only want to take the medication once a day instead of twice a day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may sound like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/venlafaxine-hcl-er\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">extended-release venlafaxine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the way to go for the treatment of depression or anxiety, but that\u2019s not always the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSome individuals may metabolize the medication more slowly, meaning it stays in the body for even longer than intended,\u201d explained Dr. Bhatti. \u201cSimilarly, some individuals may be more sensitive to the extended release version \u2014 they may experience more side effects. For those folks, a doctor may prescribe immediate release.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/venlafaxine-hcl\/dosage\">Venlafaxine comes in a<\/a> wide dosage range. Immediate-release oral tablets come in 25 mg, 37.5 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, and 100 mg dosages. Extended-release formulations, sometimes sold under the brand name <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/effexor-xr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Effexor XR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, include 37.5 mg, 75 mg, 150 mg, and 225 mg doses. Venlafaxine can interact with other antidepressants, drugs that raise serotonin levels, blood thinners, and supplements like St. John\u2019s wort.
