We looked at formularies from six popular Medicare providers and found that one-third of these randomly chosen plans\u00a0 didnt cover Gemtesa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other insurance plans will have different formularies than the ones we looked at, so it\u2019s always best to check your plan\u2019s formulary to confirm prescription drug coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-much-does-gemtesa-cost-with-medicare\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How much does Gemtesa cost with Medicare?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because Medicare Part D formularies and out-of-pocket drug costs vary, it\u2019s difficult to come up with an average cost of Gemtesa with Medicare.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, we found four drug lists that cover Gemtesa, and all of them categorize it as a Tier 4 medication. This typically means that, for those plans, you\u2019ll pay around 30%\u201340% of the drug\u2019s retail price as co-insurance. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since Gemtesa costs an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/gemtesa\/dosage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">average of $674 for 30, 75 mg tablets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you can expect to pay about $128\u2013$171 for this prescription each month with this type of Medicare Part D plan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2026, the out-of-pocket maximum for Medicare Part D recipients is $2,100. This means the last few prescriptions of the year would cost nothing out of pocket if you started paying for Gemtesa at the beginning of the calendar year. You may reach the out-of-pocket maximum sooner if you also pay for other prescriptions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, the Medicare coverage gap, or \u201cdonut hole,\u201d is gone, so you no longer have to pay more for your prescription drugs after reaching a certain limit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-save-on-gemtesa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to save on Gemtesa<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether your Medicare plan covers Gemtesa or not, there are ways to save money on this prescription.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"gemtesa-coupons\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gemtesa coupons<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription-discount-card\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SingleCare prescription discount card<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could save you about $247 on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/gemtesa\">Gemtesa prescription<\/a>, lowering it from $674 to $427. Carter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a urologist based in Greeneville, Tennessee and a medical adviser at <a href=\"https:\/\/aeroflowurology.com\/\">Aeroflow Urology<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He suggests Myrbetriq (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/mirabegron-er\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mirabegron<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) as an alternative to Gemtesa because it belongs to the same drug class and \u201cis more widely covered and offers similar efficacy.\u201d Sure enough, the Medicare formularies we spot-checked that don\u2019t cover Gemtesa do cover name-brand <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/myrbetriq\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Myrbetriq<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or generic mirabegron. Dr. Carter warns that Myrbetriq may raise blood pressure in some people, which generally isn\u2019t the case with Gemtesa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"other-overactive-bladder-treatments\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other overactive bladder treatments<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aeroflowurology.com\/lopa-pandya\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lopa Pandya<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a reconstructive pelvic surgeon at the Department of Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology at UI Health and a medical adviser at Aeroflow Urology, says overactive bladder may be treated without the use of pharmaceuticals, which may be more affordable in the long run.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFirst, we consider behavioral modifications, like what kind of fluid intake someone has, and modifying that. Anything caffeinated or carbonated is going to impact the bladder, and alcohol will worsen symptoms as well,\u201d she explains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Pandya says some people notice that spicy food triggers their overactive bladder symptoms, and that losing weight may improve symptoms. Aside from lifestyle changes, she also recommends pelvic floor therapy because \u201cyour pelvic floor muscles can impact how the bladder functions.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, there are several procedures to treat an overactive bladder that may be covered under Medicare Parts A and B. \u201cOne is intradetrusor botox to help relax the bladder muscle,\u201d Dr. Pandya explains. \u201cThere are also two approaches that impact the nerves of the bladder. One is called PTNS (percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation), which is basically where an acupuncture-like needle is put in a nerve near the ankle and hooked up to a stimulator. Typically, this is done over 12 weekly sessions.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second nerve-impacting approach requires surgery to implant a device that stimulates nerves near the base of the spinal column for better bladder control. As the most invasive option, it\u2019s usually recommended for people who have tried other treatments with little to no success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"what-about-the-manufacturer-s-savings-card\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What about the manufacturer\u2019s savings card?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sumitomo Pharma, the makers of Gemtesa, offer the Simple Savings Program to help people afford their Gemtesa prescription. Unfortunately, having or being eligible for Medicare disqualifies you from the program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re being treated for an overactive bladder, check your Medicare Part D plan to see which treatments it covers, and share them with your healthcare provider.
