Ubrelvy<\/span><\/a> (ubrogepant) is a prescription medication used to treat migraine attacks in adults, with or without aura. It belongs to a class of drugs called <\/span>calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists<\/span><\/a>. These medications work by blocking CGRP, a protein believed to play a key role in triggering migraine pain. Unlike some migraine treatments, Ubrelvy is intended for use only at the onset of a migraine, not for prevention.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ubrelvy is generally not considered safe during pregnancy. Research on its use in pregnant women is limited, but available studies suggest the potential for adverse developmental effects on the fetus. Can you take Ubrelvy while pregnant?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) is not recommended during pregnancy. The main reason is that there is very limited research on its safety for pregnant women and developing babies.<\/span><\/p>\n

In <\/span>clinical trials<\/span><\/a>, one case of miscarriage was reported among participants taking Ubrelvy (50 mg) for acute migraine treatment. While it is unclear whether Ubrelvy was the cause, researchers note that more studies are needed to understand its long-term safety in pregnancy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)<\/span><\/a> does not currently recommend Ubrelvy for pregnant patients. Neurologist <\/span>Danielle Wilhour, MD<\/span><\/a>, of UCHealth, explains: \u201cIn my practice, I counsel women to discontinue Ubrelvy once they become pregnant, and I do not prescribe it during pregnancy. As a relatively new medication (approved in 2019), we do not yet have enough evidence regarding its safety during pregnancy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

If a pregnant woman is taking or considering Ubrelvy, it should only be used when the potential benefits clearly outweigh the risks to the fetus. In such cases, patients are encouraged to enroll in AbbVie\u2019s <\/span>pregnancy exposure registry,<\/span><\/a> which tracks outcomes for mothers and their babies.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the risks of taking Ubrelvy while pregnant?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Research on Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) use in pregnancy is limited, but there are several potential concerns:<\/span><\/p>\n
