They\u2019ll offer recommendations based on your reason for stopping it, whether it&#8217;s because of an upcoming surgery, switching to another blood thinner, or other factors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"switching-from-eliquis-to-another-blood-thinner\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Switching from Eliquis to another blood thinner<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMost anticoagulants begin to take effect within the first minutes to hours,\u201d Dr. Beshir says. \u201cFor those agents, switching is straightforward, and the patient is instructed to start the new drug at the time the next scheduled Eliquis dose would be due.\u201d The exception, he says, is warfarin.
