In fact, one <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC11920899\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that people with IBS reported feeling better about taking a low-dose antidepressant, especially if the drug conferred other potential benefits, such as improved sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"who-is-amitriptyline-best-suited-for\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who is amitriptyline best suited for?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IBS can manifest differently in different people. Some may predominantly experience diarrhea as part of their IBS, which is called IBS-D, while others with IBS-C primarily have constipation. Still, others may have a mix of symptoms from both, which is sometimes called IBS-M (mixed type). Finally, there\u2019s an undefined subtype known as IBS-U. Then they slowly increase the dose as needed to a maximum of 75 mg before bedtime.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may not notice an effect right away.
