This is because it enters directly into the bloodstream and doesn\u2019t need to go through the digestive system.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"zofran-ondansetron-half-life-why-it-matters\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zofran (ondansetron) half-life: Why it matters<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Half-life is a measure of how quickly a substance is eliminated from the body. It\u2019s the time it takes for the amount of a drug in the body to drop by half. Zofran\u2019s half-life is around three to four hours in most adults for an 8 mg dose. This means that three to four hours after taking 8 mg of Zofran, the amount of the drug in the bloodstream is reduced to around half.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The half-life of Zofran can vary with factors like age, metabolism, and hydration. In older adults, Zofran\u2019s half-life is a little longer at around five to six hours. Zofran is cleared faster in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/can-kids-take-zofran\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">children<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but slower in infants who have underdeveloped metabolic pathways. \u201cThe rate at which the body hydrates also affects the duration of relief,\u201d Dr. Knobel says.
