This medication, classified as a<\/span> prostaglandin analog<\/span><\/a> (PGA), is also sometimes used off-label for <\/span>eyelash<\/span> and eyebrow growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the differences between generic and <\/span>brand-name<\/span> Lumigan<\/span>?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Generic <\/span>Lumigan<\/span> is available under the same name as its <\/span>active ingredient<\/span>, <\/span>bimatoprost<\/span>. Prescription<\/span> bimatoprost ophthalmic solution<\/span> 0.01%<\/span><\/a>, the same formulation as <\/span>Lumigan<\/span>, hit U.S. pharmacy shelves in 2025. Before that,<\/span> bimatoprost<\/span><\/a> was available in an <\/span>FDA-approved<\/span> 0.03% formulation, which is also used for <\/span>eyelash<\/span> growth. To treat glaucoma and high eye pressure, either .01% or .03% drops may be prescribed.<\/span><\/p>\n

As an <\/span>approved generic<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>bimatoprost<\/span> 0.01% has the same dosage form, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics, and intended use as <\/span>brand-name<\/span> Lumigan<\/span><\/a>. That means <\/span>possible side effects<\/span><\/a>, such as <\/span>eye irritation<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>eye redness<\/span>, <\/span>dry eyes<\/span>, and <\/span>eyelash changes<\/span>, are also the same. <\/span>Research<\/span><\/a> comparing generic and <\/span>brand-name<\/span> PGAs for <\/span>glaucoma<\/span> also found no statistically significant differences.<\/span><\/p>\n
