Your healthcare provider will show you how to properly inject Zepbound under the skin of your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm using a single-dose pen or a vial and syringe. You can take Zepbound at any time of day, with or without food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone starts Zepbound by taking 2.5 mg once per week for at least four weeks. The dose is then increased by 2.5 mg every four weeks until you reach the maximum <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/zepbound\/dosage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zepbound dosage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 15 mg once per week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Side effects tend to appear when the dose is increased, but they often go away over the next few weeks. If side effects persist, a healthcare provider may recommend lowering the dose. If needed, Zepbound can be kept at room temperature for up to 21 days and must be used or discarded after that.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"is-zepbound-better-than-foundayo-for-weight-loss\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is Zepbound better than Foundayo for weight loss?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, Zepbound is more effective than Foundayo for weight loss in clinical trials, though the two haven&#8217;t been compared head-to-head.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In clinical trials, Zepbound produced greater average weight loss than Foundayo. People lost an average of 21% of their body weight after taking Zepbound for 72 weeks, while people who took Foundayo for 72 weeks lost about 12% on average.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on the average starting weight of trial participants, that works out to roughly 48 pounds with Zepbound and about 25 pounds with Foundayo, on average. These results were achieved alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity of at least 150 minutes per week. Because Foundayo and Zepbound haven&#8217;t been compared directly in a head-to-head trial, these figures come from separate studies, and individual results will vary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFoundayo can produce meaningful weight loss, but it technically doesn\u2019t outperform Zepbound in that department,\u201d says <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugwatch.com\/contributors\/fernando-ovalle\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fernando Ovalle Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, MD, an Orlando-based obesity medicine specialist with Drugwatch.com. \u201cClinically, I\u2019d present it as an important new option, especially for patients who want an oral medication, but not necessarily the strongest option for every patient.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"foundayo-vs-zepbound-insurance-coverage-and-cost-comparison\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foundayo vs. Zepbound: Insurance coverage and cost comparison<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zepbound is more likely to be covered by health insurance than Foundayo because it&#8217;s been on the market longer. The FDA approved Zepbound for weight loss on Nov. 8, 2023. Foundayo received FDA approval two and a half years later, on April 1, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite Foundayo&#8217;s recent approval, the largest pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) in the U.S. have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/investor.lilly.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/foundayo-and-zepbound-now-covered-millions-americans\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">already added it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to their formularies. Zepbound is also covered by these PBMs. CVS Caremark had previously dropped Zepbound, but<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/litigation\/cvs-brings-back-coverage-lillys-obesity-drug-zepbound-2026-05-28\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> announced in late May 2026<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that it would restore coverage, with Zepbound returning to its standard commercial formulary on Oct. 1, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although these are positive signs, coverage for Zepbound and Foundayo ultimately varies by plan. Plan sponsors, such as employers, can choose not to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/what-insurance-plans-cover-weight-loss-medication\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cover weight loss medications<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Veterans Affairs covers Zepbound only to treat obstructive sleep apnea and doesn&#8217;t cover Foundayo at all. Medicaid coverage varies by state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There&#8217;s one program where access to Foundayo and Zepbound doesn&#8217;t depend on your specific plan: Medicare. From July 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2027, eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries can get certain GLP-1 medications, including Foundayo and Zepbound, for a $50 copay per month through the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/medicare\/coverage\/prescription-drug-coverage\/medicare-glp-1-bridge\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicare GLP-1 Bridge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A prior authorization is required.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zepbound costs less than Foundayo for out-of-pocket payers.
