So to get through the season, you\u2019ll need these hangover remedies that actually work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"1-check-for-drug-alcohol-interactions\"><b>1. Check for drug-alcohol interactions.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as the saying goes. Some of the best hangover cures involve preventing their worst side effects in the first place. The effects of alcohol can sometimes be complicated by medications, such as those used to treat <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/benadryl-allergy-medicine-and-alcohol\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allergies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/statins-and-alcohol\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high cholesterol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/adhd-medications-adderall-and-alcohol\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADHD<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Before having anything to drink, you should check with your provider or pharmacist to ensure it\u2019s safe to mix alcohol with your regular prescriptions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"2-take-your-vitamins\"><b>2. Take your vitamins.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re cleared to imbibe, bulking up on certain nutrients before indulging might help reduce the painful side effects the next day. \u201cAlcohol depletes a broad range of vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, enzymes, proteins and minerals from your body,\u201d explains <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drcarolyndean.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carolyn Dean<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, MD, a diet and nutrition expert and author. Deficiency in these vitamins and minerals can contribute to your hangover symptoms, often causing a worse hangover or prolonging the period of time it takes to get over them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Dean says magnesium is \u201cthe kingpin\u201d of vitamins depleted after drinking alcohol. Age and excessive alcohol consumption over time can further deplete this mineral, increasing your hangovers and impacting your overall health. So if you\u2019re a regular drinker, she advises supplementing daily with magnesium (preferably a liquid picometer form) as well as vitamin C and milk thistle\u2014all of which support proper liver function.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"3-hydrate-with-water-and-a-little-caffeine\"><b>3. Hydrate with water (and a little caffeine).<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHangovers occur primarily due to dehydration, low blood sugar, electrolyte imbalances, and dilated blood vessels, which can lead to headaches,\u201d says Stephen Loyd, MD, medical director of the rehab facility <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journeypureriver.com\/why-us\/staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JourneyPure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cTo treat a hangover, each of those symptoms has to be treated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting with the first of those symptoms, dehydration, Dr. Loyd says drinking water is your best bet. Try tomato juice, pickle juice, &#8230;or Sprite.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The misery of a hangover may have you reaching for a little hair of the dog with a well-made Bloody Mary. But drinking more alcohol in an attempt to recover from a wild night out isn\u2019t recommended. Instead, try some <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4820955\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alanine-fortified tomato juice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, researchers found that it can reduce blood alcohol levels, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.clevelandclinic.org\/6-health-benefits-of-drinking-pickle-juice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pickle juice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which contains electrolytes. And after experimenting with 57 different beverage options in a lab, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/content\/articlelanding\/2013\/fo\/c3fo60282f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">researchers in China<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concluded that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sprite may be the best<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> drink for curing your hangover symptoms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"5-eat-some-carbs\"><b>5. Eat some carbs.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heavy drinking can have an impact on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2955866\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blood sugar levels<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. (This is just one reason <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/alcohol-and-diabetes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">people with diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> need to exercise extra caution when drinking.) It\u2019s why Dr. Loyd says that in addition to hydrating with water, hangover sufferers should be eating.\u00a0 \u201cA breakfast that is high in carbohydrates can help hydrate you and stabilize your blood sugar,\u201d Dr. Loyd explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, you should eat a balanced meal before drinking, along with the morning after. H<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aving nutrients and calories in your body can slow alcohol absorption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"6-try-bacon-and-eggs\"><b>6. Try bacon and eggs.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not just your imagination that a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich magically makes you feel better. Both bacon and eggs contain an amino acid called cysteine, which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/epdf\/10.1111\/j.1530-0277.2010.01368.x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scientists have found<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may decrease the amount of acetaldehyde in the body\u2014one of the byproducts of alcohol metabolization which may contribute to some of your hangover symptoms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re vegan, broccoli also contains high amounts of cysteine, so that little superfood might help to kick you out of hangover mode.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"7-balance-your-electrolytes\"><b>7. Balance your electrolytes.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To stabilize your electrolytes and treat the issues that might arise from such an imbalance, Dr. Loyd says to \u201cincorporate avocado or banana into your breakfast. Both these foods have salts and minerals the body needs to recover.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth noting that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedars-sinai.org\/blog\/science-of-hangovers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cedars Sinai<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has reported on research that found electrolyte levels don\u2019t actually go down when you drink alcohol, citing this as a long-standing myth. But that doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t still benefit from the extra hydration and electrolyte boost you\u2019ll find with sports drinks like Gatorade, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coconut water<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Pediapops, and Pedialyte (the last two can typically be found in the baby aisle at your local grocery store).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"8-medicate-aches-and-pains\"><b>8. Medicate aches and pains.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because headaches (up to and including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/postdrome-phase-migraine-effects\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">migraines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and body aches can be among the most common symptoms of a hangover, you may find that over-the-counter painkillers like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/ibuprofen\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ibuprofen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/advil\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advil<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/aleve\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aleve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/motrin-ib\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motrin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/acetaminophen\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">acetaminophen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can help prevent some of the worst symptoms. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Margaret Aranda, MD, of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yourdoctors.online\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your Doctors Online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> suggests medicating before you ever go to bed. She recommends the following regimen:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ibuprofen, 200-800 mg (unless you have stomach ulcers, in which case she says \u201ctake nothing, and don\u2019t drink, either.\u201d)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turmeric 2,000 mg, \u201cwhich pretty much anyone can take\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cimetidine 200 mg twice a day, \u201cto prevent stomach ulcers.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to know that continually combining <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/over-the-counter-painkillers-with-alcohol\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over-the-counter pain reducers and alcohol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can have a negative impact on your body. So while a dose of pain relievers the night of your drinking session, before you go to bed (with a big glass of water), and then again the next day, shortly after waking up, may help reduce your symptoms\u2014it\u2019s not a solution you want to rely on every time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may want to consider giving <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/prescription\/alka-seltzer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alka-Seltzer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a try as well. While there is no research to back up the fizzy medicine\u2019s treatment of hangover, the sodium bicarbonate in the ingredients may help to settle an upset stomach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"9-hit-up-an-oxygen-bar\"><b>9. Hit up an oxygen bar.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the past decade, oxygen bars have gained popularity everywhere from Vegas to Aspen. While there is no scientific evidence to suggest it can cure a hangover, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">doctors say<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the treatment is harmless and can help ease symptoms of difficulty sleeping and dizziness. Plenty of people swear by it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just avoid the flavored O2 options, which contain oils and may be dangerous to inhale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"10-try-hangover-iv-drips\"><b>10. Try hangover IV drips.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another concept that has grown in popularity in recent years is the idea of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/i-tried-hangover-club-iv-drip-2015-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hangover IV Drip<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Establishments are popping up across the country to administer an assortment of fluids and vitamins purported to reduce the impact of a hangover and return you to full energy in just 45 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again, there is (as of yet) no scientific evidence to back up the validity of claims being made regarding these IV drips. And this option isn\u2019t cheap, running up to $250 an IV bag. But people who have opted to give the heavy in B vitamins and electrolytes bags a try claim it helps in most cases for at least a few hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Aranda supports this treatment plan. If you\u2019ve woken with a hangover, she suggests getting an IV with the following (\u201cdepending again on your risk of stomach ulcers and NSAIDS\u201d):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ketorolac 30mg IV<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitamin B12 or cyanocobalamin 1000 IU intravenous or subcutaneously<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve finished your IV drip, she says you should take, \u201ccimetidine 200 mg tablets twice that day to prevent stomach ulcers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"11-consume-some-ginger\"><b>11. Consume some ginger.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGinger is an excellent, natural hangover cure,\u201d says <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/acupuncturejerusalem.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jamie Bacharach<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a licensed medical acupuncturist and herbalist who has extensive experience helping patients fight the effects of hangovers and reset their systems following a hangover.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While there are no studies to back up the benefits of ginger for a hangover, it\u2019s one of the natural cures mentioned time and time again across the internet. And Bacharach says that, \u201ceither by eating ginger or drinking ginger tea you can help to reduce feelings of nausea and indigestion, as ginger\u2019s natural properties serve as an effective counter to all hangover-associated symptoms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"12-try-prickly-pear-extract\"><b>12. Try prickly pear extract.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bacharach further suggested the use of prickly pear extract. She says this, \u201cis a popular hangover cure as some studies have suggested it can reduce the risk and severity of a hangover by as much as 50%.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She\u2019s referring to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/15226168\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conducted by Jeff Wiese, which did find a significant reduction in nausea, dry mouth, and food aversions for those who took prickly pear extract prior to a night of drinking.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPrickly pear extract naturally reduces inflammation of the liver, which otherwise directly leads to hangover symptoms such as headache and nausea,\u201d Bacharach explains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"13-get-some-sleep\"><b>13. Get some sleep<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUltimately, one of the most effective ways to cure a hangover is to sleep it off,\u201d Bacharach says. \u201cWhen suffering through a hangover, our bodies are in a diminished state, and not up to combating a hangover or its symptoms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So if you wake up feeling hungover after a night of drinking, you might want to consider canceling your plans for the day and curling back up into bed\u2014after drinking a big glass of water and enjoying a nice breakfast, of course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBy giving our bodies the time they need to recover and regroup, we can sleep through the period of discomfort and wake up refreshed and rejuvenated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"14-red-ginseng\"><b>14. Red ginseng<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Red ginseng, a plant that grows in Asia, is also touted as a trendy hangover remedy. But does it work? In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/24458173\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 25 healthy men, ingesting red ginseng along with an alcoholic drink resulted in decreased blood alcohol levels and a lessening of hangover symptoms. But a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/add.15786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">systematic review<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0found no convincing evidence that red ginseng had any benefit on hangover symptoms. That said, research supports red ginseng\u2019s antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, so taking the supplement may help support the immune system\u2013which is<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4590612\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> weakened by alcohol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"15-asparagus\"><b>15. Asparagus<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You probably know it\u2019s important to eat your veggies, but when it comes to preventing hangovers, one particular vegetable is a standout. According to one <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ift.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/j.1750-3841.2009.01263.x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, consuming asparagus may decrease a hangover\u2019s severity. Enzymes, minerals, and amino acids in asparagus protect the liver against alcohol\u2019s toxins. More research is needed, but in the meantime, this is a remedy that certainly can\u2019t hurt to try.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"16-abstain\"><b>16. Abstain<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know this isn\u2019t what you want to hear if you\u2019re already suffering from a hangover, but addiction medicine board-certified psychiatrist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myndpsychiatry.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jared Heathman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, MD, says \u201cthe best way to manage hangovers is to avoid alcohol.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen you consume alcohol, multiple things happen to the body that can affect the way in which you function and feel, especially the next day,\u201d says <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/b4.developmentsite.co\/our-story\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John Mansour<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Pharm.D., founder of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a vitamin supplement drink that claims to help reduce the impact of a hangover. \u201cYou are introducing toxins into the body that can cause short- and long-term damage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These toxins include acetaldehyde and malondialdehyde. \u201cThe damage of these toxins on the body can create a similar effect as radiation poisoning, which is why you feel so sick the next day after drinking too much alcohol,\u201d Dr. Mansour explains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hangover-cures-that-don-t-work\"><b>Hangover cures that <\/b><b><i>don\u2019t<\/i><\/b><b> work<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though popular hangover remedies, these common \u201ccures\u201d don\u2019t actually work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"1-hair-of-the-dog\"><b>1. Hair of the dog<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chasing a hangover with more alcoholic beverages isn\u2019t <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">really <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a hangover cure. Having a glass of tomato juice and vodka the morning after may seem like a good idea. But while it may temporarily relieve alcohol withdrawal symptoms, it essentially perpetuates the cycle, making it longer for you to recover. In fact, hair-of-the-dog is probably the most ineffective hangover \u201ccure\u201d out there.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"2-excess-coffee\"><b>2. Excess coffee<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0If you\u2019re drowsy after a night of imbibing, reaching for a morning cup of coffee may seem like a no-brainer. But alcohol causes dehydration, and because <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.clevelandclinic.org\/does-coffee-help-hangovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coffee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a diuretic, too much may make your recovery take longer. We suggest limiting coffee intake to one to two cups, and drinking plenty of water along with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-bottom-line\"><b>The bottom line<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A night out on the town can be fun, but giving up alcohol completely has a number of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/what-happens-when-you-stop-drinking\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">positive benefits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And regular drinking has been linked to a variety of health risks. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s12889-019-6576-9\">Studies<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0show that drinking one bottle of wine a week gets you the same detrimental health risks of smoking 10 cigarettes a week,\u201d says Dr. Aranda.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, if you don\u2019t want to deal with the effects of a hangover, just say \u201cno thank you.\u201d \u201cIf this is not possible or realistic, alcohol should be consumed in moderation and not consumed quickly,\u201d Dr. Heathman adds. \u201cOur body has a limited number of enzymes available to metabolize alcohol. Once our body is at full detoxification abilities, additional alcohol will cause a back-up and result in side effects.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For some, the thought of even moderation may sound impossible. If that\u2019s you, and you fear you may be suffering from alcohol use disorder (AUD) or addiction, there is help available. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/find-help\/national-helpline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">national helpline<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you can call for advice and resources, and there are even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/medication-help-alcohol-use-disorder\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">medications available<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that can help you quit drinking altogether.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Between birthday parties and seasonal get-togethers, the time for festive communal drinking seems to be year-round.
