If your resolutions fall by the wayside, you\u2019re not alone, and it\u2019s okay!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-mend-broken-resolutions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to mend broken resolutions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s easier than you think to get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/alternatives-to-new-years-resolutions\/\">back on track<\/a>, with these tips.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"1-begin-again-with-a-more-specific-resolution\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. Begin again with a more specific resolution<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m going to get in better shape this year\u201d sounds great, but it doesn\u2019t provide any tangible steps for you to stick to. Instead, refocus on a few individual, achievable items that allow continual, measurable growth. If your goal is to get in shape, consider setting a goal for the number of times you\u2019ll visit the gym per week and focus on achieving that until it\u2019s a habit. If you know cookies are a huge temptation for you, commit to keeping them out of the house. Connect with why you made the resolution<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf your resolution is something that your doctor, a friend, or a partner suggested, but you don\u2019t have any real internal motivation to make it happen, it doesn\u2019t stand much of a chance,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kevin-heine-6154a831\/\">Kevin Heine<\/a>, a board-certified health coach at Practical Healing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThe trick is connecting that resolution with something that is a true motivator for you.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think about it this way: Losing 10 pounds becomes much more likely if you frame it in terms of thinking about how that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/blog\/weight-loss-diet\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will make it easier to go on a hike with your kids or how it will make you feel more confident giving a presentation at work.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"3-make-a-game-plan-moving-forward\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. Make a game plan moving forward<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A goal without a plan is a wish. By anticipating what-if scenarios, you\u2019re setting yourself up not to quit in the moment but to adapt and thrive, says Freeman.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>If you know birthday parties or other celebratory events usually create a challenge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, eat before you head to the party so you\u2019re less hungry and tempted by foods that don\u2019t support your goal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>If you find working out boring<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, surround yourself with a group with similar objectives and share your goals with them. If you realize a few weeks in that getting to the gym four times a week just won\u2019t fit into your schedule, update your resolution! That\u2019s not a failure; it just means that your broken resolution wasn\u2019t quite right for you the first time.
