The report authors believe that paradoxical bronchoconstriction is an underreported side effect of beta2-agonist inhalers, including albuterol. According to this research, this side effect impacts up to 8% of people using this treatment. The exact cause of these deaths is unknown; however, researchers suspect cardiac arrest and the resulting lack of oxygen to the body.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pregnancy and breastfeeding<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you should tell your doctor. The lack of oxygen caused by asthma might be more harmful to the fetus. Somewhere between 4% and 12% of women who are pregnant in the United States have asthma, and 3% of those take asthma medications, including albuterol, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ncbddd\/birthdefects\/features\/birthdefects-asthma-medication-keyfindings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A study published in <\/span><em><a href=\"http:\/\/pediatrics.aappublications.org\/content\/early\/2012\/01\/11\/peds.2010-2660\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pediatrics<\/span><\/a><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0found that using asthma medications did not increase the risk for most congenital disabilities. Albuterol was the most common medication used by people participating in the study.
