Years in pharmacy
Why did you decide to go into pharmacy?
I truly have a passion for helping people on a path to better health. I enjoy taking care of my patients, whether that means reaching out to them about adherence, personally delivering prescriptions, or most importantly saving my patients as much money as possible.
I worked as a pharmacy technician for two years and then started pharmacy school. I’m a pharmacy student at Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy in Weatherford, Oklahoma. I will graduate in May of 2022 with my Pharm.D. and a Bachelor degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. While I’m in school, I’m working as a pharmacy intern, under the supervision of a pharmacist. When I graduate, I will be the one in charge of patient safety. I want to make sure that prescriptions aren’t something my patients have to worry about.
How do you go above and beyond for your customers?
I had a patient come in and tell me I saved her life. I made a routine call to check if she was taking her medication. She told me that someone reaching out to her really raised her spirits and made her day. Hearing that made my day!
Another time, a man who had recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes came to the pharmacy. I personally applied discount cards for more than 10 of his prescriptions, to find him the best price on his new health journey. Then, I delivered them to him, so he wouldn’t have to make another trip to pick them up.
What does this award mean to you?
This award is a great honor. It gives me a sense of accomplishment after staying so busy between school and work. I’ve worked 30+ hours a week at my pharmacy, on top of being a student for five years.
