Diclofenac Sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, swelling (inflammation), and joint stiffness caused by arthritis. This prescription drug is also indicated for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis and other inflammatory conditions. Diclofenac Sodium works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation.
Before taking Diclofenac Sodium, tell your doctor about all of the other medicines you take, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you have. Do not take Diclofenac Sodium if you are pregnant.

Common side effects of topical Diclofenac Sodium include local reactions where the medication is applied, such as redness, dryness, itching, numbness/tingling, and irritation.
Diclofenac Sodium has a black box warning, which is the strongest warning required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This warning applies to all NSAIDs. Diclofenac Sodium can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease. Diclofenac Sodium may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, ulcers (sores), or perforations (holes), which can be fatal. Diclofenac Sodium should not be used before or after heart bypass (CABG) surgery.
Seek emergency medical help if you notice any signs of a heart attack or stroke. These can include chest pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, feeling short of breath.
