What is Miglitol?

Miglitol is a member of the alpha-glucosidase inhibitors drug class and is commonly used for Type 2 diabetes. Alpha-glucosidase is one of the enzymes responsible for breaking down carbohydrates to smaller sugar particles like glucose, in order for the carbohydrates to be absorbed. Drugs in the alpha-glucosidase inhibitors work by competitive and reversible inhibition of these intestinal enzymes. They slow the digestion of carbohydrates and delay glucose absorption.
