What is Bendeka used for?

Bendeka is a cancer medicine that comes in the form of an intravenous solution. It is used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It works by interfering with the spread and growth of cancer cells in the body. This medicine is also used to treat indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma after other medicines have been tried unsuccessfully to treat this condition. Do not use Bendeka if you are pregnant as it could harm the unborn baby. Common side effects may include fever, cough, mouth sores, trouble breathing and nausea.

What to do if you miss a dose of Bendeka

Bendeka contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to bendamustine, polyethylene glycol 400, propylene glycol, or monothioglycerol, or if you are pregnant.

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Injection routeIt is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Women should continue to use birth control for 6 months and for men 3 months after treatment ends.

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, cancer, or any kind of infection.

  • Do not breastfeed during treatment and for at least 1 week after the last dose.

  • This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.

  • Pain, redness, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed

  • Change in how much or how often you urinate, lower back or side pain

  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness

  • Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Blistering, peeling, red skin rash

  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Diarrhea, constipation

  • Tiredness, headache
