How to take Cyklokapron

  • A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

  • Your doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein.

  • Missed dose: You must use this medicine on a fixed schedule. Call your doctor or pharmacist if you miss a dose.

What to do if you miss a dose of Cyklokapron

  • This medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. Keep all appointments. If you miss a dose, call your doctor or pharmacist for instructions.

Cyklokapron contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to tranexamic acid, or if you have bleeding in your brain or an active blood clots.

Cyklokapron warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, eye or vision problems, or a history of seizures. Tell your doctor if you are having surgery for a heart or blood vessel problem.

  • This medicine may make you dizzy. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg, or on one side of your body.

  • Pain in your lower calf.

  • Seizures.

  • Sudden or severe headache, or problems with speech or walking.

  • Vision changes.

Cyklokapron interactions

  • This medicine may make you dizzy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.

  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments. Blood tests will be needed to check for unwanted effects.

  • If you or your child will be receiving this medicine for longer than several days, your doctor may want you to have your eyes checked regularly by an eye doctor. This will allow your doctor to check for unwanted effects that may be caused by this medicine.

  • Some medicines can affect how tranexamic acid works. Tell your doctor if you are using birth control pills or medicine that helps in blood clotting formation (including anti-inhibitor coagulant concentrates, factor IX complex).

Serious Side Effects

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, coughing up blood

  • Pain in your lower calf

  • Vision changes.

  • Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg, or on one side of your body

  • Sudden or severe headache, problems with speech or walking

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Blurred or other changes in vision

  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting

  • Seizures

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Pain, redness, or swelling where the needle is placed
