Generlac is a laxative derived from lactose that helps to treat chronic constipation and to treat or prevent hepatic encephalopathy or other mental problems caused by liver disease. Lactulose, the active ingredient found in Generlac, is a colonic acidifier that works by decreasing the amount of ammonia in the blood. It is a man-made sugar solution.
