Luxamend is a brand-name topical emollient. Currently, there are no generic equivalents to Luxamend on the U.S. market.
What is Luxamend?
Luxamend is a prescription-only wound cream that is used in dressing and managing superficial wounds such as minor abrasions, dermal ulcers, pressure sores, first and second degree burns, sunburn, and radiation dermatitis. Luxamend works by maintaining a moist wound environment which helps with the healing process.
Do not use Luxamend if you are allergic to any part of it. Luxamend is also not meant to be used bleeding wounds or on skin rashes related to food or medicine allergies.
Before using Luxamend tell your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions especially skin conditions, you may have. You should also inform your doctor about all the medicines you are using including all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
You should only Luxamend as prescribed by your doctor. If you are using Luxamend for radiation dermatitis, do not apply this medication for four hours prior to a radiation session. Do not apply Luxamend to dermal grafts until after the graft has successfully taken. If your condition does not improve in 10 to 14 days, call your doctor.
Keep Luxamend out of the reach of children and pets. If Luxamend is ingested you should call your doctor, or the poison control center immediately for medical advice.
What are the side effects of Luxamend?
Some common side effects of Luxamend include a temporary tingling sensation 10 to 15 minutes after application.
If you have signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, hives, itching, swollen, red, peeling or blistered skin, trouble breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, throat, and tongue, get immediate medical attention.
