This medication is used to treat a mood disorder known as schizophrenia. The active ingredient in this drug is risperidone. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. This helps to decrease hallucinations, allowing you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less agitated, and take a more active role in your life.
This FDA-approved medication is available in the form of a subcutaneous powder for injection. It is given by injection under the skin of the abdomen by a healthcare professional. This medication is usually taken once a month. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.
