What is Uptravi used for?

Uptravi is a prescription-only medication that is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a condition that affects arteries in the lungs. Uptravi works by slowing down the progression of pulmonary arterial hypertension by widening the arteries to allow blood to flow easily throughout the heart and body.

How to take Uptravi

  • Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

  • Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.

  • Oral routeIt is best to take this medicine with food or milk.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If your next regular dose is in less than 6 hours, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you miss a dose for 3 or more days, call your doctor right away.

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

  • Do not use this medicine together with gemfibrozil.

  • Some medicines can affect how selexipag works. Tell your doctor if you are also using clopidogrel, deferasirox, rifampin, or teriflunomide.

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms, or upper chest
